Hello Friends, Readers and Curious Souls!
It's hard to believe I started this site over three years ago! I've been thinking of you
while dealing with the challenges life brings and - as promised - I completed my
manuscript on "The Caterpillar." It took 93,000 words to capture Jung's thoughts
and seventy-five pictures and charts - provided by my husband - which perfectly
complement my work!
While attending the Army Pre-Command Course with Jim, I was first
introduced to the MBTI. It was the one exercise that helped prepare me for the
daunting challenges that face a commander's wife. I became aware of the simple
differences which can make profound impacts, and the Gifts I had to offer. Later, when
Jim was reassigned to FT Leavenworth, I had the opportunity to take the MBTI qualifying
course presented by Dr. Linda Berens. Eventually I earned my Master's Degree in
Psychology and Counseling. To celebrate, Jim treated me to a trip to Gainesville, Florida
where I met Dr. Mary McCaulley, President of the Center for Applications of Psychological Type and close friend
and colleague of Isabel Meyers. Her opening question was, " What has Type done for you?" During our conversation, she encouraged me to write this book. Sadly, in August 2003, she died and the CAPT publishing house literally disappeared.
It wasn't until COVID struck and seminars were cancelled, that I focused on writing. I quickly realized
the MBTI had more to share than the traditional course we had been taught to present. It was an opportunity for healthy individuals to discover their unique talents and purposes and appreciate the Gifts Differing others shared; however, in the real world, we meet individuals who "don't play by the rules." We enter into relationships which fail. How can we help others while protecting our own evolving selves? The goal of my book was to share how to survive in an imperfect world while continuing to transform into the best version one was designed to be. I believe the MBTI, supported by Jung's theories, opens doors to spiritual growth which is more important than ever today.
The first half of my manuscript focuses on the development and application of Type. The remaining chapters
investigate influences from beyond the conscious world. Jung offered four guidelines:
1. He who looks outside dreams.
2. He who looks inside awakens.
3. Called or not, God is.
4. The privilege of a lifetime is to be who your are.
I believe my work is complementary and true to Jung's teachings. I tried to represent Jung's theories in an inclusive, engaging manner. I addressed questions which were previously posed in classrooms, seminars, and the
private living rooms of family and friends. With my continuing research for knowledge on Jung and the MBTI,
combined with my life experiences, I hope I succeeded in sharing his wisdom which may inspire you as you travel
along your hero's journey to individuation, to become the best version of the person you are meant to be.
If my enthusiasm exceeded my ability, I apologize for any missteps I might
have made. I am optimistic my insights have unlocked Jung's profound work, bringing a deeper understanding to the MBTI. I wrote this work as a friend, not as a licensed counselor. My Goal was to "reboot" Jung and the MBTI, reestablishing their validity and reliability in the face of numerous critics and their unwarranted accusations. For those of you who have been waiting for this book, thank you for not losing faith; I hope it is worthy of your time. It is a work from the heart, inspired by you all - particularly my family, who have accompanied me on my journey to self-actualization. Understanding and sharing our individual Gifts has never been more important to the survival of the world.
